This piece was based on the worship song, "Raise a Hallelujah", which stuck in back of my head for months before finally manifesting into something worth showing. The hand holding the sword actually wasn't even the toughest part of the project - that was pretty much sketched out on paper and finalized in Adobe Illustrator exactly as I saw it.
It was the font type and style that went through several revisions before landing on the one I felt fit the look and feel.
For "Up from the ashes", it was a skewed and grungy style that was needed, conveying a time of despair. And then, slowly evolving into the more bold and refined "HOPE", and ending with the eloquent "will arise", solidifying the coming of Jesus as a beacon of light.
